There are very few things as destructive to your home as termites. As a result, it is imperative that you do everything in your power to prevent them from “attacking you”. Knowing that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, one of the best ways to avoid termites is making sure you avoid having these things that attract them around your home:

  1. ALL KINDS OF WOOD – Up to and including pressure treated wood! If it’s touching the ground, it’s fodder for termites!
  2. CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS – Buried Foundation Forms and even Sawdust attract Termites like a magnet!
  3. CRACKS IN YOUR FOUNDATION – Much of what termites eat is underground, and if they make their way to your foundation and find a way in ….
  4. FOAM BOARD INSULATION – This provides a safe sanctuary for termites, and while they don’t eat it, they do dwell in it until they find the “wood” part of your home!
  5. GUTTERS – Especially clogged ones! Leaf and twig debris offers a bountiful buffet for termites.
  6. MOISTURE – Even small amounts! Inasmuch as Termites munch on cellulose they need moisture so they don’t dehydrate.

Understanding what attracts termites to your property will, hopefully, prevent you from actually having to deal with them! It is always wise, how-ever, to confer with the experts should you have any questions or doubts regarding the devastating termite!
