To enter into a project that is so customized to your clients can be a risk. We choose this project due to the challenge it presented: to blend the many influences of their lives all under one roof and make it cohesive. After attending the wedding of the owner’s son at this home, we decided we wanted to share this home.
The setting was a dream – a large 20-acre parcel nestled next to a creek in the pristine Sonoran Desert. The exterior seems to rise from the soil and the color was selected by taking the natural soil and having it color matched.
The interior influences came from the name of the house, Vacations Remembered. The owners’ travels took them many places and the art selected along the way was incorporated within the design of the home. Working as a design/build firm, we were able to take all of this information and create from it a unique home.
The use of typical items in untypical ways further explored the blending of traditional and non-traditional styles. Using tin ceiling panels as a back splash in the kitchen set off the stainless appliances in our version of grandma’s kitchen.
The master retreat with its spa influences allows the owners to feel like they are on vacation while still at home. The natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert ebbs into the interior. Clean lines follow through to the spa bath. The glass sinks and tiles blend with the tumbled marble on the counters and floors. Simple, clean and natural was the formula for these spaces.
Although not the typical back yard, the environment embraces the surroundings while giving a unity to the interiors. The use of the blue stone to surround the pool’s edge, along with the rustic look of the tumbled paver for the deck completes the overall effect.
